STUDENTS AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Northern Health’s Work Experience Program
As the key provider of public health care in Melbourne’s Northern Region, we offer a comprehensive Work Experience Program for high school students.
Our tailored approach aims to provide a meaningful program of activity over a standard working week. Based on availability, students can nominate their preferred placements and location.
Northern Health’s Work Experience Program operates throughout the year, providing secondary students with a five day block of placements which brings the opportunity to gain insight of the health care system and workplace.
Students are place primarily to observe and learn – not to undertake activates which require extensive training or expertise.

Northern Health in partnership with AGA
Northern Health have been in partnership with AGA for 9 Years to date. Each year Northern Health takes on new students or continues to offer students opportunities and support from the previous year.
Student who join Northern Health as a Business Trainee are able to complete a Certificate III in Business Administration as full time Trainee, working five days a week and will have the opportunity to complete 3 hours of onsite training each week.
Over the past six years Northern Health have had great success from this program. Most students start from a school based trainee completing a Certificate II in Business Administration and then go onto a Certificate III in Business Administration.
A highlight from one of our students who is currently working in our Engineering Department. In 2019 the student commenced as a school based trainee and completed a Certificate II in Business Administration. In 2020 she was offered to take on a Certificate III in Business Administration, in which she did. She completed her Certificate III in Business Administration and have gained on-going full time employment with Northern Health working five days a week.
