Urology

For Patients and Visitors

What is the Urology Service?

The Urology Unit will provide assessment and treatment for any Urological issues- these are problems related to the urinary system. This includes any problems involving the kidneys, bladder, prostate and testes.  The Urology Unit provides clinics and operating sessions at both the Northern Hospital and Broadmeadows Health Service.

Common problems include cancer of the prostate, kidneys and bladder; kidney stones; difficulty passing urine, urine infections and incontinence. You will be assessed by the Urology team and any investigations or treatments required will be explained and organised.  We will write letters to your GP to keep them informed of your progress.

How to refer to the service?

A referral is required. Please visit your GP clinic

What can I expect from the service?

You will usually be seen by a senior Urology consultant surgeon or by one of the other members of the team who will then discuss your case with a senior surgeon.   You will be treated with respect and all of your concerns will be addressed.  An interpreter will be provided if necessary.

All cases of cancer will be discussed at our Multidisciplinary Cancer meeting where other cancer specialists, such as medical oncologists and radiation oncologists, will discuss your case and recommend an appropriate treatment plan.

What do I bring to my appointment?

Please bring along any relevant investigations such as X-rays, scans or blood tests; the name and address of your GP and other specialists who you regularly see; a list of your current medications.

You can bring along family members or friends to help you during the consultation.
