At Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre and Craigieburn Centre we offer a Continence Service that is for adults requiring assessment and management for bladder and or bowel dysfunction.
Our team at Northern Health has been providing Continence Nursing Services to the community for over 30 years. We provide home visits and centre based appointments from all three campuses.
What can I expect from the service?
Our Continence Nurses are experienced clinicians specialised in the management of needs relating to continence. The service will provide advice and support for adults which include:
- Comprehensive continence assessment and management
- Client and carer education and support in relation to continence
- Bladder retraining, bowel regulation programs and toileting programs
- Catheter education and other drainage equipment
- Prescription of aids and equipment
- Skin Care management
What do I bring/need for my appointment?
Please bring a list of current medication.

Service Overview
This service will also provide consultancy, education and support to carers, relatives and professional service providers.
Continence nursing and physiotherapy services are available at Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre and Craigieburn Centre.
Medical intervention provided by a Geriatrician specialising in continence management is only available at Bundoora Centre.
- The clinicians working within the Continence Services specialise in the management of incontinence and other bladder and/or bowel dysfunction.
- The services provide assessment, diagnosis, management, education and support to improve continence for clients.
- The service will also provide consultancy, education and support to carers, relatives and professional service providers.
What can be provided:
- Comprehensive continence assessment
- Client and carer education counselling and support in relation to continence
- Bladder retraining programs, nocturia assessment and management, toileting programs, bowel regulation programs.
- Equipment/aids prescription via appropriate funding schemes (e.g. SWEP/NDIA)
- Catheter management- (note: no long term management)
- Medication assessment
- Facilitating access to trial products
- Management of incontinence associated skin conditions
Inclusion criteria:
Over the age of 18 years, incontinent of urine and/or faeces or problems with urinary or bowel elimination.
Living within the Northern Health catchment
