What is the Audiology Service?
An audiologist is a health-care professional that are trained to diagnose, manage and treat hearing problems. Audiologists help clients of all ages – from infants to older adults – and clients with complex needs improve their ability to communicate and interact in all environments.
The Northern Health Audiology department consists of 2 part time audiologists.
What can I expect from the service?
Audiologists counsel families through a new diagnosis of hearing loss in infants, and help teach coping and compensation skills to adult with a hearing loss.
They will help design and implement a personal and industrial hearing safety programs, newborn hearing screening programs, school hearing screening programs, and provide special fitting ear plugs and other hearing protection devices to help prevent hearing loss.
What do I bring/need for my appointment?
Please bring any previous audiology or Ear, Nose & Throat letters.

Service Overview
An audiologist is a health-care professional specialising in identifying, diagnosing, treating and monitoring disorders of the auditory and vestibular system portions of the ear.
Audiologists are trained to diagnose, manage and/or treat hearing or balance problems. They dispense hearing aids and recommend and map cochlear implants.
Audiologists counsel families through a new diagnosis of hearing loss in infants, and help teach coping and compensation skills to late-deafened adults.
They also help design and implement personal and industrial hearing safety programs, newborn hearing screening programs, school hearing screening programs, and provide special fitting ear plugs and other hearing protection devices to help prevent hearing loss. In addition, many audiologists work as auditory scientists in a research capacity.
The Northern Health Audiology department consists of 2 part time audiologists.
The service at Northern Health aims to identify and manage hearing impairment in children from the age of 6 months to 18 years referred from within Northern Health. The department also assesses the hearing of all adults and children referred from the Ear Nose and Throat Service, and any other clinic at The Northern Hospital. The audiology service operates from The Northern Hospital campus in Epping Victoria.
