For Patients and Visitors
What is the Service?
We provide both inpatient care and public outpatient services. Public clinics are held every day at Northern Hospital and/or Cragieburn Health Service. Day Oncology Services also operate at both sites, where we are able to administer chemotherapy, iron infusion and perform venesections. Our team consists of 9 haematologists, 1 thrombosis fellow, 1 clinical haematology registrar, 2 day oncology registrars and 1 haematology nurse coordinator as well as 1 nurse practitioner.
What can I expect from the service?
Any patient with a blood disorder can be referred to us. All referrals will be promptly reviewed and patients will be contacted with an appointment date (made according to medical needs), either via post or telephone.
Whether you are an inpatient or outpatient, a discharge summary or letter will also be sent to provide your GP with the latest update of your care. Interpreter services are also provided if required.
What do I bring/need for my appointment?
Please bring with you to the appointment:
- Medicare card
- a current list of your medications
- previous blood tests and imaging (if available)
If pre-clinic blood tests and imaging have been requested, kindly also please organise to do that prior to your appointment. If done outside of Northern Hospital, please let your doctor know which blood collection and/or imaging services you have used.
